B.H.A.L.D.I. (Balloon-based High ALtitude Digital Imagery) is a group of Twin Cities parents and kids interested in sending cameras and other data-capturing equipment to near space and back using weather balloons, parachutes, and Styrofoam coolers. Our first launch was on Halloween 2010 when we successfully sent 2 balloons and cooler payload to near space and back, capturing over 3,000 images (including the image in the header of this page) and hours of HD video.

The BHALDI Team also is interested in pursuing other science and engineering projects, and is looking forward to expanding BHALDI to projects outside of weather balloons and high-altitude image and data gathering. Stay tuned.
